When we thought about it today, Philip has not really been active at all for two weeks now. He is still pretty weak. We have some ground to cover to help him just get back to where he was two weeks ago before the flu, and then some ground to cover to see if he can regain his balance. This is going to be a slow process. In many ways, it is like he is learning all over again. Please pray for wisdom in helping him and for him physically to be able to rebound as well as mentally to understand how to perform certain functions. Specifically, please pray for his ability to drink. He has definitely lost some part of that mouth motor skill. We are looking at all options of cups to find the one that is the best for him. If he cannot regain that skill, we will have to make some decisions in the near future about making sure he gets enough fluids. He is eating very well and not having a problem swallowing, but just cannot grasp the concept or motor function of closing his mouth to drink from a cup or sippy cup, etc. This, obviously, is a main goal we must work on. Walking seems rather secondary when you consider you might not be able to drink. He can, at times, get some drinks but definitely not what he needs to keep hydrated. We are feeding him foods high in water content and found out yesterday he loves to chew on crushed ice pellets. We also have a sippy cup or two that we can just squirt some liquid in his mouth and then he can swallow just fine. We would definitely appreciate your prayers for this particular matter.
We follow up with both neurosurgery and neurology in two weeks.
