February has been a much more routine month though we’ve had some surprises. The month started out with a snowfall we weren’t really expecting. We had probably 6-8 inches of snow and Ethan had a lot of fun in that. Of course, public school was cancelled but home school wasn’t. Ethan got to play in the snow and then go to school. On the second day as the snow melted, he and I built a snowman. We have to take the snow opportunities we get when we have them. We were able to keep up with his school and still have, clipping along at a good schedule. He’s doing really well with his reading. He’s reading most all the time now when I go to find him…or building with his LEGOs.
Other than those days, Joy has been able to be at school each week. She has now transitioned to getting in her gait trainer every day. Her teachers are comfortable putting her in it and so she can stand and take steps four of the five days of the week. The physical therapist and I will work out a workable schedule for her school time with gait trainer, stander, PE, etc. next week. Also, Joy will have a DEXA scan next week and see her PCP. The DEXA will check her bone density after 3 bone infusions. We’ll see hopefully how they are helping. We have things to discuss with her PCP that just have to do with her growth and care. Please pray that appointment is profitable.
The other special days we had were when my parents, and nieces and nephew, came to OKC for several days while my sister and brother and their spouses attended a conference in Georgia. My parents agreed to watch all five of their children, and chose to do so here in OKC. They stayed with us for a couple of days and then moved over to my sister’s house for the rest of the week they were here. We had some really good times with them. On President’s Day, school was out and even Ben’s workplace was closed, so we had a fun time going to a new park in downtown OKC called Scissortail Park. It was a good day of memory-making. Then, we spent some time each day with the family, culminating in a celebration of Ethan and Uncle Jason’s birthday last Thursday, February 20. We had probably 17 people at the house to celebrate and it was fun. Ethan wanted a red Lego block cake with 6 posts on top because he was turning 6. My 16-year-old niece and I worked on the fondant for the cake I baked. We made some good memories doing that. We also compiled a video of some pictures of our time together. That was fun, too!
March is a busy month but we look forward to all the opportunities we have to enjoy each day and shine the light of the Lord to those around us. Our church’s theme this year is “A Light in the Darkness”. This is really working to refresh my view of what God wants to do with me daily, whether I’m shining a light in the community or to my family. I miss opportunities but I’m asking the Lord to help me see each opportunity to just extend a hand or give a smile as well as speak to someone in depth about their soul or Christian growth. We all will be seeking to grow in that area as long as we live.
Thank you for praying for us! God has been good and will continue to be! He can't be anything else!
