Merry Christmas to all!
We're in Kentucky with my family and have already enjoyed the holiday immensely. The Lord has already given us a gift of sorts.
We left OKC Sunday night, my husband deciding to drive all night to make the trip an easier transition for the kids, mostly Philip. We figured if he would sleep most of the night while driving and then get a good nap on Monday we could start the week off better. What we couldn't plan on was that Philip would go into strong ketosis (vomiting) in the van. He actually began to throw up at church and we had a tough decision to make but when he didn't continue for a good while, we decided to go ahead and leave. He only threw up once on the van and not even very much then. After vomiting, he dozed for a while then had those clear bright ketosis eyes. But the problem with that was he felt the best he had probably felt in many weeks, so he didn't want to sleep. We couldn't blame him. Out of sheer exhaustion, he fell asleep at 2:30 am. He slept a couple of hours but then wanted to watch again, see all the lights passing by out the window. Monday was a little rough as we tried to help him get back on schedule but he wasn't unhappy just obviously out of routine. Since then he has done so wonderful. He has been happy pretty much all the time. He has only been screaming on a few occasions. He has slept well at night and been content with the food at meals. We are praising the Lord for this Christmas gift to Philip and to us. We pray this level of Ketosis continues but even if it doesn't, we're thankful for the days he has had it. He is not seizure free but they're definitely reduced and that makes all the difference in the world. Last night, he was even trying to sing This Little Light of Mine with my younger brother Andrew. We all enjoyed that.
We also met with a good friend here from my home church who has years of knowledge and experience with special needs kids. She helped us incredibly with materials and wisdom and we have a lot of stuff to begin working on with Philip, mainly forms of communication that he can use, indicating his needs and wants through picture symbols and photographs.
Well, once again, we hope your holiday season is full of joy and gratitude for the best gift of all given by God-Jesus and through his coming, the way for all mankind to be made right with God. Praise His Name! The same God who made provision for that plan of salvation has a plan for our little family, as well. There's so much security in that. God is good!
