After the two weeks of prodding, poking, measuring, etc she was a little zoned out in the day time. In an effort to keep her sleep schedule from flipping to the day time, we set up times when she would be dressed and in her chair during the day. Because Joy is almost blind, light and dark don’t govern her circadian rhythm like you and I. She goes off of activity and noise vs. still and quiet. So, we asked they get her up and turn on music or a movie to help her establish when she needs to be awake and when she needs to sleep. Thankfully, her bedtime meds still help her go to sleep every night and for the last few days she has slept all night long. Once her new braces get adjusted and ready, she will begin working hard in therapy. Her therapists are already seeing her but for now, they have mostly been evaluating, adjusting and ordering. I was in error in my last post, there are no group therapies or activities as of yet. But there are still activities to do. Today is Joyanna’s infusion and she is asleep right now. She stayed awake a little longer this time.
Ethan and I are in the midst of a Vacation Bible School week at church this week. I’m taking the day to be with Joy at her infusion so he went with friends this morning. Our church decided to host VBS this year but it looks a little different. Normally, our church would send out about 20 buses to pick up children and teenagers for VBS, however we haven’t resumed our bus routes for church, so no buses for VBS. Anyone is welcome to come (someone must bring them), but we’ve still had a good number of children. I’ll return to finish out VBS on Thursday and Friday and help in various places where needed.
We head out on vacation on Saturday. Ethan is so excited to fly. We are heading to Oregon and it looks like everything is cleared for travel. My sister and Ben’s sister will check in on Joy while we are gone. I’m ready for some time away but it’s always bittersweet leaving town with Joy here. We’ll be able to FaceTime some and I can check on her at any time. Another minor point, but this year our garden is doing great and most of our first harvest time is going to fall right in our vacation. Oh well, I just hope the plants stay alive and healthy while we are gone so they keep producing when we are back. We love to put up the harvest, especially our tomatoes and beans, and have not had great garden years recently to do so. I’m really hoping for a good year and some beans and tomatoes to enjoy through the winter.
I hope those of you not in Oklahoma are beginning to re-open your communities. It’s been a blessing to be here where the limitations have been relaxed for a while now.
Hope you’re enjoying your summer! Thanks for praying for us!
