Philip is once again seeing his therapists at Full Circle since school is out. They were pleased with his work this week as opposed to even last week. They said he had better concentration. He surprised me again this morning! He has a placemat with the alphabet on it. This morning at breakfast, he looked down and staring directly at the letter, said, "Z." He was right! I made a big deal about that. These are the kinds of surprises he's been giving us for the last week or so.
We have been using lavender essential oil to help him go to sleep and it seems to be really working. I don't know everything about essential oils but since we have been regularly applying it, about two weeks now, he has been going to sleep much easier. In fact, the last few nights, I don't know that he has cried at all. I think also, in a general sense, he is calmer. We still have some days where meltdowns are worse but overall, it's better.
The church choir for Southwest Baptist got the opportunity to sing the national anthem at our local baseball affiliate, the Redhawks. It was pretty cool to stand out on the field. So, about 500 of the church members (counting the choir) went to the game. We took up almost 3 sections of the upper level and Philip had a blast. He loves any kind of ball game. Ben figured out that Philip could stand between his knees and hold onto the railing in front of us. He stood there for a long time, maybe a couple of innings. Good strength training! He could see the game better and he would lean against the rail to clap when everyone else clapped. Isn't he cute with his too big baseball cap?
Also, our church had vacation bible school last week and he loved that. He really is not a homebody. He's always excited to go anywhere. I thought he would just fall apart with the schedule change and such a long week but he did really well. We averaged 933 attendance for the week and with all those kids getting excited every morning and singing and cheering, he had the time of his life. He could just cheer and clap all he wanted. I wish I had taken a picture to share but I didn't think of it at the time.
Well, time moves onward, and in the waiting mode, we are thankful for that. We've just decided not to get depressed about it but to have a fun summer and let Philip enjoy it, too. Right now, we would appreciate your prayers for grace and patience in waiting. Praise the Lord today! He is Good!
