As we experienced last semester, Joyanna went to school for two weeks. She was just fitting into her school routine and the Polar Vortex decided to strike. So, with some freezing fog and icy spots on roads, OKCPS decided to do virtual school on Tuesday. Because conditions have not changed much and virtual schooling is so easy, they have continued that platform through the end of this week. Because of the same weather conditions, the infusion clinic was closed yesterday (Wednesday), so we rescheduled her infusion for today. Of course, sitting here during her infusion, it doesn’t seem like a Thursday at all. She is sleeping as she normally does. We did decide to come in earlier this morning because we were expecting some winter weather to escalate during the day. As it is, there may not be more today, but we are not done with winter weather. Like much of the US, we are expecting ice, snow and record low temperatures for a record length of time. It’s very incredible! Because of the weather, it’s not likely that Joy will go to school next week so here we are again—two weeks on and two weeks off, almost an exact clone of last semester.
It is frustrating to try to organize the day to accomplish all the goals when everything has to be shifted so often. Some of you would laugh to know I am not naturally a task-oriented person. I don’t like to make lists and check them off. It sure sounds like it now in my posts. I just had to learn along the way, that if I didn’t make a plan, important things would not get done. That wasn’t an option for all of the needs of Philip and Joyanna. Now, I lean on that routine, perhaps a little too much. There’s always a ditch on both sides! It takes the spirit of the Lord to bring balance.
Joyanna did get her new brace. I’m not sure it is making that much of a difference over the former one. Her body format is just so hard to fit in a brace. Therefore, the brace itself just slides right up until it is pushing into her underarms. In that spot, it’s not really addressing what it is supposed to. We’ll speak with the orthotist and try to make adjustments and go on from there.
Joy herself has been very happy lately, really smiling at songs, movies, sound effects, and our silly words to her. It’s so great to see her really happy. She’s such a trooper!
When I’m able to write again, we might just be thawing out! Stay safe and warm!
