Before we actually start recording the EEG, we will move from ICU to a regular room. They are no longer worried about his respiration. Neurosurgery isn't worried about him returning to a regular room after his surgery. The move from ICU is quick. I am trying to finish this post in the last few minutes. They need the rooms in ICU a little more than a regular room on a floor. We are glad to be moving to a regular room overall, although we love the nurse we had yesterday and today.
Dr. Gross (neurosurgeon) came by this morning and we had a good talk about her expectations and plans. Surgery will be tomorrow afternoon as early as one, most likely around 3:30-4. It is not an extensive surgery. She will shave a small patch of hair, place the drain, and get him back in his room. The drain will pull the fluid off basically until its done draining. She did say they wouldn't get every last bit; it's not really possible and the body will just take care of the rest over time. Then they will do a CT scan to see if the brain is moving back into place from the shift. In a couple of weeks we will come back for a CT scan to make sure the fluid is not gathering again. She doesn't think there is a problem with the shunt so will leave it alone.
Off to a room now!
