The flight to San Diego was much shorter and Ethan was so tired after he ate lunch, he was asleep before the plane even took off. Joyanna did a good job sitting quietly and playing or reading. That was a blessing since on the second flight, the plane was very full. We had such a warm welcome at the airport in San Diego from the Make-A-Wish team here. They helped us every step of the way and didn't leave us until we were checked into our hotel and headed to get settled in. The first order of business in our hotel room was to take a nap. Joyanna was so tired she could hardly function and even Ethan was needing a little more rest. So did I. I think we all felt so refreshed after our nap. Even my 20 minute power nap made such a difference.
We decided to see the ocean. We are not very far from a beach at our hotel but we decided to drive 15 minutes to Children's Beach in La Jolla because seals and sea lions lie on the beaches there. Joyanna and Ethan loved to see all the water. Both loved to say, "ocean." We could not get very close to the seals/sea lions because there was construction on some walkways. We had enough fun just walking in the sand and going down to the water. The water is cold so no getting in except your toes!!! Ethan loved the sand. Joy was okay with it but several times tried to head back to the stairs leaving the beach. When the sun set, we left the beach and headed to supper. My brother-in-law recommended Anthony's Fish Grotto for good seafood. We decided to go for it. We don't get a lot of good seafood in land-locked Oklahoma. Everything was wonderful! Even the kids loved their shrimp and fish. And fries, of course. Since the time is two hours different from home time, we were ready to go back to the room, get baths, and both kids are sleeping soundly now.
Thanks for your prayers for a safe trip. More fun tomorrow!
