Philip had a good night last night. He had a rough time this morning, starting about 4:30am, getting blood drawn for labs; but that is beginning to be the story of his time in the hospital, and may be the story of his life since he apparently doesn't have easy veins for a needle. I asked the nurse this morning as they were trying to draw blood (the 3rd nurse to try and the 8th needle) if he was a harder case than most and she said he is definitely not the most difficult but that he is certainly stingy with his blood. Because of the difficulty with drawing blood they are going to put a PIC line in his arm sometime today to save him from much more "torture". The PIC line is kind of like an IV but it extends all the way to the heart. They will be able to draw blood or give him medications as needed over a longer period of time rather than having to keep sticking him every time they need to test his blood.
He is supposed to have an EEG this morning--they haven't showed up yet, but, the way things seem to happen in the hospital, they probably will as soon as he goes back to sleep.
He has actually been awake watching some bible song videos the last hour which is the longest stretch he has been voluntarily awake for the last week. Hopefully that means he is gaining some strength back.
No official word yet on when he will have surgery, the pediatric neurosurgeon who put his shunt in 4 years ago will be doing the surgery, she should be coming by sometime today and will have more input.
As we have said before, and will say again, we certainly appreciate and covet your prayers for the doctors and Philip, as well as Becca and I as we seek God's wisdom and strength during this time.
