Philip’s mic-key button came out last Wednesday as we were leaving for church. We discovered the balloon that holds it in had a leak. I had just had discussions with the dietitian for our medical supply company to order the backup mic-key button. Of course, we didn’t figure it would be needed only 3 weeks into our experience. I knew it was coming in soon but we didn’t have it yet so you can only wait so long. We taped the mic-key button back in and called the doctor. We hoped to avoid an ER visit but that wasn’t to be. By the next morning, we couldn’t really make advances in getting one and Philip hadn’t eaten in over 12 hours so Ben had to take him to the ER. He said it was absolutely the fastest ER visit we’ve ever had; he had to drive around looking for a parking space for longer than the actual visit inside. They had a mic-key button on hand that was Philip’s sizing and the nurse had replaced it in a few minutes. About 3 hours later, the backup that had been ordered was on our porch! Ben said that’s literally, “A day late and a dollar short.” Overall, it was just a hiccup but the nurse I talked to later in the day said we had been initiated into the mic-key button world.
Philip is not as happy on the outside this week but I think he is still happy. It just fluctuates in his ability to show it. His allergies (and mine) are back with a vengeance. He has a lot of congestion and therefore problems with swallowing, aspirating, coughing, and is drooling more. This time though, so far, we haven’t had any vomiting. Perhaps the new formula has had more effect than we think. Please keep praying that his body deals with the allergies in a better way. We need wisdom, as well, to know what changes to make for him.
Joyanna hasn’t started the new medication yet because of prescription red tape. :) We should get it today and start it soon.
Our church started its Missions Conference last night. It will extend through Sunday. This is a conference to remind our church of the obligation we have to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with those here in OKC and around the world. It gives us a fresh perspective and a renewed energy to continue serving the Lord in a real way. We love missions conference. We have 9 missionary families here for the conference. They share what is happening where they are serving the Lord and we hope to encourage them by spoiling them with shopping trips and hugs and prayers and special meals and smiles. Many of them are working faithfully in very hard countries around the world.
After this semi-busy week, Philip has two weeks of spring break. Not much will change but he’ll probably miss his teachers and friends.
Oh, by the way, our daffodils have bloomed!
Thanks for praying for us!
