Side story about hard things from a few years ago…My sister told one of her sons to pick up some toys that he had covered the floor with. It would take a bit of work to pick them all up but she wanted him to learn not to spread them out and leave them until it was overwhelming. At one point, she checked on him and he was barely moving toward the goal. After asking for an explanation on his slow progress, he replied, “But, mom, I don’t like to do hard things.” Immediately her mind flew to her struggles of the day, and a lightbulb came on. She had basically been giving the Lord the same line: “I don’t like to do hard things.” What a true reflection of our real heart attitude—everyone, everywhere. We don’t like to do hard things but claiming the Lord’s strength to do them is the only real way to grow. I’m reminded of my nephew’s line often.
So, today we’ve been praying a lot and their naps will really help. Sometimes it’s almost like hitting reset for them. Unfortunately I can’t hit reset so easily on some things I said or did but God has forgiven me. I’ve already taken them to Him and He can make the day from here on out go much better.
Philip’s surgery for his mic-key button is tomorrow. We’ll get to the hospital around 9 am and the procedure is supposed to start around 11 am. ;) We hope to be home by the end of the work day. Please pray it goes smoothly. He will still be put under anesthesia and have some recovery time though it should be less than other times he’s had surgery.
We are in full swing of renovating Philip’s room so pray that goes smoothly as well. We’ll try to upload some pictures to show you all the transformations. Many of you have given gifts that have actually made it possible so we do thank you. My talented husband is working hard to make some very helpful, practical changes. I’m really spoiled actually. We’ll discuss a bookshelf or other piece of furniture that would be very practical with certain aspects and he just builds it. His dad is in heaven but I really need to thank him for teaching my husband a lot of the skills he uses today.
Thanks for praying for and loving our family. May the Lord truly bless you in return.
