The PA explained that she had not personally seen a subdural drain empty so quickly and the neurosurgeon was pleased with the progress. She said we should be able to go home tomorrow. YEAH! I think we are all ready to be back home.
His ammonia was at a decent level this morning. His INR (blood clotting) was still the same, slightly elevated but not enough for them to keep us here. We will probably work that out in the long term with his seizure medications. Speaking of seizures, we don't know what to think. Still no sign of his former tonic seizure. All we can say now is that the Lord has taken it away, maybe not forever but we'll take this reprieve while we have it and wouldn't be upset to never see it again. He will drop a short term seizure medication today and we will see how that affects him. Once that is dropped, he will be back to the dosing of medicine he was taking before entering the hospital. That will give us the most indication of what we should do from here. Since our main goal was to control that tonic seizure and it's gone, we may have some good decisions to make along with the help of the epileptologist.
Behaviorally, he is pretty much back to normal. Since he has been forced to lie down with the drain in and has been weak with the flu, we will probably have to assess motor skills over the next few weeks to see if he can gain any of those back. We are still praying this fluid drain and maybe some medication changes will make a difference in that.
We will probably be able to include some pictures this evening when he's happier after a nap!
