Philip is playing so well these days. He likes his routine and since we have been able to be back in it, he does great. This morning, I got out his new triangle crayons again. (They help him so much. He can grip them so much better.) He wanted to color and color and color. I kept asking him, "Are you all done or do you want to color more?" "I want more," he would say. He has NEVER wanted to color that long. He wanted to turn pages in his coloring book and start coloring new pictures. He was choosing crayons and trying his hardest to hold them the right way although he would lose grip frequently. He didn't even try to put them in his mouth today which is amazing! We might have to get out the crayons more frequently if he is ready to work on that skill. I had lots of praise for his efforts and success with that today.
Yesterday, Philip started on the full recommended dosage of the new medicine (depakote for those who are familiar). Now, we'll let this last increase level out and see the final effect of the dosage on the seizures. I am still hopeful. For the most part, we've had days with less seizures although, if you read my last post, there have been a couple of days where he had more than usual. Behavioral side effects have not really increased. Philip does seem a little more out of it at times, just kind of dazed but hopefully that will improve as the medicine levels out. That's what we're waiting to see. Of course, the original goal was that if this one works, we can wean off one of the other ones. That might help with the overall dazed condition.
