The sooner the better, I am thinking. While Philip has experienced some good days cognitively, he is having more trouble eating and drinking again. I have noticed over the past few days, he has not been able to suck as well and has been chewing less, mostly swallowing food. Of course, this could just be some low days and it will resolve but if he continues to digress in that area into the next couple of months, we might have to consider some other feeding options.
Yesterday's therapy sessions went really well. Both speech and occupational therapists were very pleased with his words and attention. Philip loves both of them and we are thankful they love him, too. They want to help him so much.
Monday we went to the zoo. Philip has trouble with the depth perception of seeing the animals in their habitats, especially if fences are involved, but he saw several of the animals and was excited to be out and about. The gorillas at our zoo are such entertainers and they love to sit right in front of the window. Philip could see them the best probably. He also got to see an owl, 2 bears, some fish and turtles. There is a big waterfall right outside the bear habitat and he loved that. He also loves their playground. They have a swing that is specifically for handicapped children. It is large and lays back. He LOVES to swing! He did that most of the time he was in the playground.
Please pray with us that the diet will be scheduled quickly at Children's Medical Center Dallas. Pray we can figure out all the logistics of being away from home. Pray that Philip's ability to eat, drink, and walk will rebound and not become more of a problem. Thanks for praying!
Happy 4th of July! If you sing God Bless America or when you see the flags, think of Philip. He'll be waving his flag. He was as I was writing this. :) When I just sang God Bless America about 15 minutes ago, he got the words "foam" and "home" in. Good job, Philip!
