It's been a week since I posted anything. Mostly, that's because everything has been pretty much the same for the last week. That was actually a surprise to me because we started the new medicine last Wednesday. I expected to have the typical medicine transition week with some aggressiveness and behavioral problems but it didn't seem to be surfacing...until yesterday! Philip made up for the week in yesterday. He was sooooo grumpy! Everything was "NO!" no matter what it was. There was a lot of meltdowns and crying. Several times during the day I just stopped to hold and rock him, singing favorite songs. It's so hard to know what particularly is bothering him because he can't communicate it. The nap and bedtime helped most of all yesterday. Joyanna, Philip, and I are all also dealing with allergies--runny noses, congestion, etc. That probably doesn't help. Earlier in the week, the tonic seizures were much shorter although there seemed to be more of the them. Now, there are less but they are back to the typical length. We typically don't make judgments until the medicine has had time to level out so we will see where we are in a few weeks when we reach the dosage recommended by the epileptologist. Today we added a capsule to his daily dosage. We'll do that for another week and then add another, reaching 3 capsules daily for his recommended dosage. A couple of weeks after that, we can evaluate the seizures and side effects. Some behavior problems are expected during transition but please pray this medicine will not cause behavioral side effects continually. That has been the main reason we have had to stop other medicines. The rest of this week is fairly busy. Pray that the next few days won't be too much for Philip in his current state. We daily pray for calm for him...and for wisdom for me!
