They began to work with Philip immediately when we got to the ER. This time, we did not choose to load so many medicines at once since our experience in December was fresh in my mind. He did receive some doses of anti-seizure drugs to stop the seizure activity. It definitely calmed him but his heart rate was still a little high for his normal resting rate. We were able to talk to his doctor in the afternoon. She decided he was stable and she admitted him to a room. There are definitely some types of seizure included in this event but all of it may not be seizure. He will have an EEG done tomorrow that might help them determine that. Mostly, she thinks it is just another step in the neurological decline and we make decisions to go from here. We'll make Philip comfortable. That probably means more medicine but if that's what it takes, we don't want him to be in pain. We've already made some immediate medicine decision with his current medicines but will decide further in the days and weeks ahead. He seems to be resting now but his heart rate is still high. I think that means that the problem is still unresolved so please be praying that we can make wise medicine choices to give his little heart a rest. His body has worked hard today and he is worn out. The doctor said she would keep him overnight but we know that may develop into more. We want Philip to be helped before we leave. They are also testing for infections which may be the cause that his heart rate is high as well and that his seizure threshold is lower.
Joyanna has an infusion tomorrow so both kids will be in the hospital on the 10th floor at opposite ends of the building. Ben will be with one and I'll be with the other. HE GIVETH MORE GRACE!!!
There were hard times today when I was remembering Philip's encounter in the ER in December. I honestly was not ready for that to replay itself. But it didn't. Philip was exhausted for days that time with out the ability to even rest. Today, after just a few hours in the ER and a few extra medicines he seemed more at rest. There is so much helplessness when there really is nothing you can do for your child. I'm so glad for God's Hand upon him when I can do nothing.
Your prayers uphold us at all times, but especially in times like these. Thank you!
He Giveth More Grace
He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.
Chorus
His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.
When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.
Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.
