I'll just give a quick overview of our day yesterday since Wednesday is a very busy day for us.
It was very neat to meet with Dr. Kossoff. He is a very nice man and you can tell he is passionate about the diet and its benefits. His reaction in our clinic visit is that Philip is doing well with the diet. He has met three of the goals for the diet-his seizures are better, we have decreased a dose of medicine and he is more alert and interactive. When we see those things, even though small, then the diet is helping. He did give us two small tweaks with MCT oil and Carnitine that we changed immediately. He also told us how to try intermittent fasting. We will implement that soon and see how Philip handles it. I think it will help him if he can do it. Please pray he can.
Yesterday evening, we attended his lecture for caregivers. Most of it was information Ben and I already knew about the diet but it was good to be refreshed. Of course, we learned several new things and are always thankful for that.
The neatest thing was getting to meet one other family whose daughter is on the diet. She was the first person we have met face to face who is doing this. Her daughter just started a week ago. We also met a couple other families who are considering starting their little ones on the diet. It was so encouraging to talk with other families who understand epilepsy and developmental delays, etc. We hope to connect in the future to continue supporting each other.
Please pray Philip's ketone level will continue to rise with these tweaks on the diet and that intermittent fasting will be helpful for him. Pray for our family as a whole as I know you always do. Thank you!
