We have a few more things to learn about the keto, but basically our training is done. It doesn't seem so daunting now. The unknown is the thing we fear the most, at least I know I do. It will take us a while to get the hang of weighing and calculating at quicker speeds but it will come.
Now, we are waiting on Philip to get into full ketosis. He has shown levels that are rising but has not hit the margin of numbers they want. He needs to hit those numbers and stay within them for 24 hours so they can make sure he does not go into acidosis. Acidosis would be too much acid in the blood. This will not necessarily damage his body or organs but it can make him feel sick. They don't want to send us home with him sick over the weekend and they don't want it to get worse without being addressed, of course. At this point, since he is not in full ketosis yet, it looks like we'll be here until Saturday. The doctors and nurses have mentioned that around this day, most children get a little cranky, tired, generally uncomfortable just because there are a lot of changes going on in their body. It should improve by the time the weekend is here. Philip is fitting right with that observation. He had his nap interrupted today, but was overall cranky and the interrupted nap just made it a little worse. Hopefully, this will be the low point and he will feel better soon. At lunch today, we completed the second full day on the diet. We will see what tomorrow holds, hopefully rising ketones.
