Also in July of 2013, Philip saw a Pediatric Neuro-Opthalmologist because we suspected his vision problems had neurological ties. He was diagnosed with Cortical Visual Impairment, which means he does have vision problems that originate in his brain and not in his eyes themselves. We are still unable to diagnose exactly what visual problems he does have due to his lack of verbal skills. In fact, many visual issues can't be diagnosed specifically until children are older anyway.
We were still anticipating Philip's appointment at Full Circle Development Center with Chuck Edgington, neuro-psychologist. We had a long time to wait but we had been put on the cancellation list and were hoping that would come through. Sure enough, in early July, we were contacted to see if we would be interested in coming in for Philip's evaluation due to a cancellation. Would we?! We saw Dr. Edgington the next morning, filled out some paperwork and he observed Philip. He was interested to actually read findings from Philip's MRI and CAT scans to help him draw some conclusions. Philip's case has never been cut and dry. We were to meet with him in a few weeks to learn his diagnosis. After those weeks passed, Philip was diagnosed with Autism and Intellectual Disability. He continues to have speech and occupational therapy at Full Circle.

He is currently on 3 of them and is still having seizures daily. We did not know what a roller coaster it would be to try to find the right medicines for him. Unfortunately, it seems all of his seizures (he has several kinds) will not respond to medicine. We live daily with different types of seizures, some only a few seconds and others as long as 2-3 minutes. Philip is scheduled to have an EEG study done to help his neurologist decide what is next for his treatment. It is scheduled right now for April 2014. Waiting again!
